The Art Cart

Starting today, your children (and you!) can come in to make their own art creation. Please be respectful and supervise children as they use the art supplies and clean up afterward. The Art Cart will be available whenever Jenna is in the Library (except during library events and programs).

During the Summer, Jenna will typically be in the Library every other Monday all day, Tuesdays all day, Wednesday mornings, and Thursdays all day.

Come on in! Let your imagination run free in the Library!

Items will be periodically replenished and switched out.

Find The Art Cart near the Children's DVDs!

Homeschool Club April 18 - National Poem in Your Pocket Day

We were poets today! We watched a  few animated poems on YouTube and then read aloud some Shel Silverstein and others. We talked about poems and then made some group poems using inspiration from  Prelutsky's Rhymes to Read, Rhymes to Write.

Then we took turns writing poems about our pants and stuff on our faces! There were some major giggles!

Then we wrote individual poems:

Color Poems

Picture Poems

Picture Poems

Drawing and writing while listening to music

Getting a little help from Mom :)

We meet next on May 23 at 1:30pm! Pre-registration is requested but not required :)

Storytime Setlist Update

There has been so much going on lately that I have had to put the blog on a backburner... Unfortunately, I do not have time to add photos of the pictures books... So without further ado... storytime setlists :)

March 6: Families
Hello, How are you? Song
Shhh! By Kevin Henkes
Mama Hug by Brady Rymer - we used our egg shakers
All Kinds of Families by Mary Ann Hoberman
I Wish I Had a Little Red Box by Dr Jean on her CD Dr Jean SIngs Silly Songs
What a Good Brother by Diane Wright Landolf
Feltboard: 5 Little Monkeys
My Dog is as Smelly as a Dirty Sock by Hanoch Diven
Poem: Pick Up Your Room on page 7 in Fathers, Mothers, Sisters, Brothers
Goodbye Songs

March 9 Family Storytime: Getting Dirty

Hello, How are You? Song
Story: Mud
Feltboard: Piggies
Story: This Farm is a Mess
Song: Laurie Berkner's Pig on Her Head
Story: Robert Munsch's Smelly Socks
Activity: We ripped up mud-colored construction paper, made a "mud puddle," then cut out animals and people (and tractors!) from magazines to put into the mud. Great fine motor and conversation activity!

Next month on April 13, in lieu of Family Storytime, we will have our 10am Puppet Show!

March 13 Storytime: Let's Sing
Hello, How are You? Song
I Love to Sing by Anna Walker
Song in My Tummy by Laurie Berkner
Mystery Ride by Scott Magoon (everytime the words "mystery ride" came up, i sang them out obnoxiously)
Sometimes music does the singing for us. We laid down and listened with our ears and imagined with our brains. We didn't move or talk and then we got up and danced around to tracks 8 and 13 on a Camille Saint-Saens CD.
Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons by Eric Litwin
The Littlest Birds by The Be Good Tanyas - we danced and "flew" around like birds.
Then we sang "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" the 'normal' way. Then we sang the song as if we were animals.
Goodbye Songs

We had a week off for Jenna's Spring Break.

March 27: Being a Good Friend
Hello, How are You? Song
Big Al by Andrew Clement
Four Friendly Fish from Cathy Bollinger's CD
Bear's New Friend by Karma Wilson

Mary Had a Little Lamb felt with the song from 25 Fun Animal Songs CD
The Big Blue Spot by Peter Holwitz
Then we danced around and used our maracas and egg shakers as we listened to "You've Got a Friend in Me" sung by Yami Bob on the CD "Reggae for Kids: Your Favorite Disney Soundtracks"
Goodbye Songs

NEXT WEEK, April 3: Mysteries
