What a great group of friends today! Lots of great interactions on each individual's level and comfort! And everyone stuck around to socialize and play afterwards!

Today: ABCs! I borrowed the ABCs & 123s Kit from IFLS

Book: Henry Finds His Word by Lindsay Ward

Felt: BINGO (we clapped and said the letter sound)

Felt: Each kid was given a letter. I did half of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom with the props. When it was their letter, they could bring it up and put on the tree.

Book: AlphaBlock

Song: Can't Wait to Celebrate by Jim Gill - with eggs

Activity: We made our bodies into a few different letters, inspired by Alphabet Fun

Activity: I demonstrated with each kid the alphabet tube then each kid went home with their own tube and a bunch of stickers!

Book: I Ain't Gonna Paint No More

Song: I'm Filthy, I'm Dirty (from Take Me Out of the Bathtub by Alan Katz) - We (I) sang the song slowly the first time as we swayed to the beat with our ribbon wands. Then we (I) sang it faster and we clicked our ribbon wands to the beat. Of course we had a few minutes of free movement before putting them away :)

Book: The Boy Who Cried Wolf by Hartman

We ran out of time for both Monster Boogie and dancing with scarves and the book 17 Things I'm not allowed to Do Anymore. I had them in the list as stand-bys so it's okay.


Goodbye Songs

Play Group: Inspired by I Ain't Gonna Paint no more, I had a painting table where kids could paint on stuff you normally shouldn't.

For Playgroup, I had a balancing obstacle course set up, set out the dust bunnies, and we also made shoebox paintings with rocks, paint, paper, and a shoebox.

Felt: Go Away, Big Green Monster - each child brought up part of the face when it was their turn

Puppet: I told David Ezra Stein's story, Pouch, using the puppets.

Game: Pass the Face 

We sat in a circle semi-circle. I showed a silly face to the child next to me. They copied me and passed the face on to the next person, continuing around the circle down the line. They quite enjoyed this game!

Instead of singing about the animals, we sang about his feelings. I completely stole this idea from Jill Patchin at LE Phillips Memorial Public Library and used their wheel die cut machine. (Thanks, Jill!)



















We ran out of time for Drum Dream Girl, which I kinda expected but had it there anyway.

For playgroup, I had playdoh, our mini "post office," the kangaroo puppets, and the big green monster puppet set out.

Next week: Woodland Creatures!

April 29 is our final spring 2015 storytime. Storytime will resume in June. Don't stay away, though! Playgroup will continue through the month of May at 10am. I will continue to have on your own and lightly guided activities for your families to explore.

NO BUBBLES! Gasp! We painted instead. I showed them a variety of tools and shapes they could paint with: loofah, sponges, paintbrushes, dishwashing items, and a plastic flower. Then they went WILD! It was great. I had not done this activity in a while and am pleased I chose it. I think they enjoyed themselves and making different-looking strokes and shapes.

We have creative kids... and parents!

Next storytime is at Tiny Tots on July 22 at 2:30pm. Theme is Count on It. The next Library storytime, July 23, is Dinosaurs!

Bubble time

Activity: I put a blob of white paint in the middle of a blue piece of construction paper. They smushed it in half, opened it up, and figured out what it looked like. Then I helped them write down what it looked like.
