What a great group of friends today! Lots of great interactions on each individual's level and comfort! And everyone stuck around to socialize and play afterwards!

Today: ABCs! I borrowed the ABCs & 123s Kit from IFLS

Felt: BINGO (we clapped and said the letter sound)

Felt: Each kid was given a letter. I did half of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom with the props. When it was their letter, they could bring it up and put on the tree.

Song: Can't Wait to Celebrate by Jim Gill - with eggs

Activity: We made our bodies into a few different letters, inspired by Alphabet Fun

Activity: I demonstrated with each kid the alphabet tube then each kid went home with their own tube and a bunch of stickers!

Soup Storytime - November 5

A whole storytime about soup?! Yup. If I had it my way, everyone would have gone home with a bucket of my mom's homemade pea or chicken dumpling soup... And sorry about the sideways photo...

Song that I made up this morning because I realized my pre-planned felt activity was not exactly finished (oops):

Find a pot of water (make arms into large pot)
Add the water (pretend to pour water and make water-y noises)
Boil boil boil (wiggle arms, body)
Drop in the veggies (drop to the ground)
Measure in spices (throwing motion)
Now stir..... (spin in circle or make stirring motion with arms)
And wait (STOP! HOLD STILL!)
And stir......
And wait
(repeat for a while)
And EAT!! (eating motions and noises)

Ghosts & Ghouls Storytime - October 29

We had a large crowd for storytime this morning! What fun!

Book: The Book with No Pictures by BJ Novak -- not exactly related to ghosts and ghouls, but I just HAD to!! They really got into it once they realized how silly it was and how much fun it was to respond.

Playgroup activity:
Collect the ghosts and spider off the spiderweb - Children balanced on the spiderwebs to collect the ghosts and spider, then walked to a new location and set them down so other friends on the web could collect them. I was slightly surprised how long most of the kids did this potentially never-ending activity!

Insects Storytime - October 2

Last week, we focused our play and reading on insects! One of my favorites!

Song: 2 Little Dicky Birds - first we used my fancy schmancy Dicky Bird thing (which I copied out of something and colored so long ago that I don't remember where it came from) and then we used our fingers and said the rhyme together a few times, each time faster than the previous. They always love this :)

after storytime, I gave each child a coloring page and 4 paper plates to make their own sequencing story version at home. I planned so I have enough for other patrons on our Take & Make Table.

Activity: Put Humpty Dumpty back together - GOOGLE EYES! I got this idea from a Preschool Mailbox magazine. I pre-cut egg shapes and tore up little pieces of paper (I would usually have them do this but some of my families can't stay very long after storytime and I don't want those kids to feel left out). Glue pieces of paper onto the egg shape. Glue on google eyes. Now you have Humpty!
