June 13 - Going to the Moon
Welcome song: Hello, How are You? by Dr. Jean
Roaring Rockets by Tony Mitton and Ant Parker
On the Moon by Anna Milbourne and Benji Davis
I purposefully planned few stories and songs because....
We then made our own moon surfaces! I had pre-made water/flour dough/paste and tagboard circles. The children were able to move the paste around on their circles to create the surface of the moon. I provided plastic knives for the children who were uncomfortable touching the paste. A few children started out with the knives, but by the end everyone's hands and arms will covered in it! What fun!
Goodbye Songs: Big Books, Little Books AND The Other Day
June 20 - Night Creatures
This is the first storytime with this theme because there are just too many great night creature songs, stories, and movement activities!
Welcome Song: Hello, How are You? by Dr. Jean
While You Were Sleeping by John Butler
Fly me to the Moon by Laurie Berkner on her CD Rocketship Run. We danced and swayed around with scarves. We did not listen to the whole song as it was a bit long.
Lights Out, Nights Ow by William Boniface. We made the animal's sound on each page.
Bats are Sleeping (tune: Frere Jacques)
Bats are sleeping,
Bats are sleeping.
Upside down.
Upside down.
Sleeping in the morning,
Waiting for the night to come
To fly around,
To fly around.
We sang the song and did the actions about three times.
I'm a Little Bat by Marta Prims
3 Little Smelly Skunks by Colleen and Uncle Squaty - I had planned to get out my felt pieces, but was unable to find them. How sad! BUT....they had fun acting the song out with me! Using different props, we will do this song again in a few weeks.
Stand-by picture book was Whooo Goes There? by Jennifer Ericsson. We did not have time for it, but it is a really nice one.
Lastly, we listened to about a minute and a half of night sounds from the CD Sounds of the Night. There is no overlapping music - only night sounds. Some children choose to close their eyes so they could use their use better.
NEW good-bye song: Twinkle Friends by Dr. Jean
Good-bye song: The Other Day
Next week: Night Sounds!
