Up in Space Storytime

We did our welcome song, Let Everyone Clap Hands Like Me.

Book: The Moon by Robert Louis Stevenson

Action Song: Sally Go Round the Sun - We twirled wands and our bodies as we sang this one.
Sally go round the sun.
Sally go round the moon.
Sally go round the chimney tops
Every afternoon.
BOOM!

Book: Moon Man by Tomi Ungerer

Action Poem: (I made this up yesterday and am kinda proud of it.) Whenever I said "stars," we twinkled our fingers and said "twinkle twinkle twinkle." Whenever I said "shooting star," we hollered "WOOSH!" as we moved our hands from one side across to the other, like a shooting star falling from the sky.

The sky is sparkling, full of light.

Don’t be afraid of the dark of night.

See the stars (TWINKLE TWINKLE) up in the sky.
Now a shooting star (WOOSH) flies by.

See the stars (TWINKLE TWINKLE) wink down.
Now a shooting star (WOOSH) goes round.

Shooting stars (WOOSH) are comets flying.
Our sun is a star (TWINKLE TWINKLE) hot and trying.

Book: The Moon Might Be Milk by Lisa Shulman

Song (from the Summer Library Program manual, I believe):

I'm very, very tall (stretch up high).
I'm very, very small (crouch to ground).
Tall (up)! Small (down)!
Now start your engines (crouch and bounce up and down, make revving noises)...
3.....
2.....
1....
BLAST OFF! (jump up)

Goodbye Songs and Bubbles

After storytime, I brought out the gear building blocks. Kids also chose to work on the newspaper sculpture.

Next Week: Science Stars.
